Jackie Earle Haley is the new clawed-gloved dream murderer in Elm Street

Since the first screening of A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984, it’s always a big anticipation for viewers and fans of the biggest and scariest horror film to know who will portray the role of Freddy Krueger, a clawed-gloved dream murderer in Elm Street. This year the Warner Bros presents Jackie Earle Haley, an Oscar nominee for the film Little Children as the 2010’s Freddy Krueger in addition to the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. The film is a remake of the original and directed by Samuel Bayer, it is set to be shown on April 30 (Worldwide) and May 5 here in the Philippines.

According to Haley, it was just a clamor in the internet that he is perfect for the role and he finds it cool to portray the most vicious and scariest character in history of film industry. “When the producers called and actually offered me the role, I was flabbergasted. It's such an amazing, iconic character, and just an absolute honor to be offered the role, and to get to play Freddy.” Haley mentioned in his interview. While Bayer agrees that Jackie is a perfect person for the Elm Street remake and he can do it right.

“Getting to play Freddy was exciting and challenging because, as this mythical boogey man that we all love to be scared by, there’s a lot that makes him tick. There’s a lot of dimension to this guy, and it’s fascinating, maybe in a perverse way, but that’s what’s so interesting about the culture of horror films.” Haley affirms that he enjoys playing the role of Freddy that has multi-dimensional character and he is giving a credit for Robert Englund, the first Freddy Krueger who creates the dark charisma of the character that he is doing now. “Robert did an amazing job portraying Freddy over the years. He made him who he is, an iconic, malevolent boogey man. What we’re doing with Freddy with this new approach is still trying to be true to those things that piss him off, the things that fill him with rage, and the specifics that make him the killing boogey man that he is—the fedora, the sweater, the glove. But I think we’re trying to capture him in a new way that’s a darker, and a little bit more serious, less jokey, and, hopefully, more scary.” Haley declared.

Beginning May 5, moviegoers will expect nightmares and sleepless night as Freddy Krueger returns to Elm Street.
