10 Million Signatures to Stop Mining in Palawan

ABS-CBN Foundation-Bantay Kalikasan and partners launched a campaign to gather 10 million signatures to stop mining in Palawan. They open a website where everyone can sign up and join this campaign - www.no2mininginpalawan.com. Aside from the website others can download the form and print it and fax it to 4152227 or email it to signatures@no2mininginpalawan.com.

Before the launched of this campaign, the murder of Gerry Ortega who is one of those who opposes the mining in Palawan opens the mind and heart of everyone the importance of taking care of the environment. Where Palawan has 17 key biodiversity sites that include 2 heritage sites and 8 protected sites, which it should be preserved and protected and with mining it can harm the ecosystem.

Like other environmental advocates, mining is not always option to boost economy like in Palawan. The region is known with its 5 ecotourism sites which help the economy and living of the residence in the area. Like what Mayor Edward Hagedorn did in Puerto Princesa before, he banned mining and logging in the area and focused on agriculture and tourism. It increases the 2 flights per week to 10 flights a day and the region’s revenue increased.

Coca Cola names 6 Pinoy Bloggers to be its Digital Ambassadors for Live Positively Campaign

Last October 27 at the Coca Cola Office in Makati City, with Carbon, McCann-Erickson and Coca Cola’s Live Positively Group officially announce the names of the 6 Filipino bloggers who will become the digital ambassadors of Coca Cola Live Positively Campaign that was officially launch this October.

I was glad to be included as one of the blogger ambassadors for the Coke Live Positively Campaign with Jayvee Fernandez, Enrico Dee, Azrael Colladilla, Alvin Chua and Carl Valenzona. Each ambassador was assigned on a particular task, and I was assigned to community involvement and out reach, where it is part of my advocacy as a Millennium Development Goals (MDG) advocate.

Last November 14, I was privileged to meet the Dynamic Teen Company and see how Klassrom Kariton work. Every Saturday group of youth volunteers join the weekly activity of DTC to teach children ages from 5 years old to 15 years old from alphabets, reading, writing and numbers. And their service is for free, and seeing them how they give their time, efforts and love is priceless.

Efren, a teacher by profession uses his learnings with the help of Club 8586 gives training to those who wants to volunteer for the Klassrum Kariton for their weekly activity. Every Saturday the Klassrum Kariton goes in 4 places, Palangeke ng Bayan in Cavite City in 8am, Cavite City Cemetery know as the Himlayan on 10 am, dump site on 1 pm and by 3pm at the Badjao Community.

Let Efren Peñaflorinda Jr. be 2009’s CNN Hero

Efren Peñaflorinda Jr. shows that nothing can hinder education even poverty, binuo niya ang Dynamic Teen Company in 1997 where he was only 17 kasama ang mga classmate under the supervision of Club 8586. Nakita ni Efren ang hirap kung paano magkaroon ng maayos na edukasyon dahil na rin sa kahirapan, he became viajero of fish crackers from Baclaran to Cavite and sell it in their school for his family at para na rin masustentuhan ang kanyang pag aaral, he discover that despite of their financial problem it is not an excuse to afford proper education.

After niyang makatapos sa pag aaral sa course na Associate in Computer Technology in San Sebastian College - Recoletos in 2000, tinapos naman niya noong 2006 ang kursong Secondary Education sa Cavite State University where he can use his learning as a teacher in pursuing his dreams for Dynamic Teen Company. Right now Efren and DTC is known with their Klasrum Kariton campaign where they ventures in 4 areas of Cavite City; the marketplace, the dumpsite, cemetery and the badjao area, where they address the issue of juvenile delinquency cases which includes moral issues on youth and the value of education of the youth today especially those who cannot afford to go to school and get proper education,



Efren is included among the top 10 advocates competing for the title of CNN Hero of the Year, the winner can win $100,000 aside from the $25,000 that the 10 honorees received. Lets help Efren continue his goal in championing the youth, voting for Efren and the rest of the 10 honorees competing for the CNN Hero of the Year is until midnight of November 17 and November 26, 9pm at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood will be the CNN Heroes: An All Star Tribute, where the 2009 CNN Hero will be named.

Edukasyon sa Kariton ni Efren Peñaflorida

Para isang developing country tulad ng Pilipinas na humaharap sa suliranin ng kahirapan nagiging option na lang ang edukasyon at healthcare para sa karamihang napapalang sa extreme poverty line. Which is according to United Nation Millenuem Report that most of the family lives in extreme poverty line ay nabubuhay lamang sa halagang below $1 Dollar or 45 Pesos, which mostly goes straight to major needs of the family which is for food, at ang edukasyon naman ay nagiging pinakahuli sa priority ng pamilya.

Pero para kay Efren Peñaflorida at sa volunteers ng Kariton Klasrum ng Dynamic Teen Company hindi hadlang ang kahirapan para manatiling manmang at salat sa maayos na edukasyon kaya sa umulan man o umaraw dala ang kanilang kariton na may laman ng mga libro, black board, lapis, crayons at papel ay naglalakbay sila lingo-lingo sa iba’t ibang lugar para magklase. And the only classroom they can afford is by setting the class in the cemetery na kung saan tahimik ay makakapag aral mabuti ang mga batang tinutulungan nila.

Hindi biro para sa mga taong kasama sa Kariton Klasrum project na ito na kung saan binubuhos nila ang kanilang mga oras at pagod para ihatid ang edukasyon at labanan ang kamangmangan sa mga lugar na nangangailangan nito. Ang suliranin ng edukasyon ay kabilang sa 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) na pinag usapan ng mga world leaders noong 2000 at kailangan solusyunan pagdating sa 2015. Ang usapin ng edukasyon ay nakapaloob sa MDG number 2, Achieve universal primary education na kung saan not all had the change to get the opportunity of having primary education because of poverty where majority of the children living in extreme poverty is forced to work in order to support the needs of their family.

One Life and One Earth

April 22, sa araw na ito we are celebrating Earth Day pero aminin natin sa panahon ngayon at summer hindi ba nakakagulat na umuulan sa panahon na ito? Ito ay isa sa mga senyales ng nag-re-react na si Inang Kalikasan na kung saan nagkakaroon ng climate change na isa sa mga epekto ng global warming pero it doesn’t mean na talo na tayo para maayos ang problemang ito.

In celebration of Earth Day we should remember 4 (four) REs – Rethink, Reuse, Revive and RE-educate. These are 4 things that Ang Sa Wari Ko (In My Opinion) blog is proposing aside from the major projects for saving earth in all parts of the world.

Re-think – People should think first what are pros and cons of the materials that they are purchasing in the market for example. In buying in the groceries would you just let the counter placed your groceries in a plastic bag or ask if there’s paper bag or better bring a bag where you can place it. Each one has a responsibility to act for Mother Earth and that is thinking what should be done. Nangyayari lagi ito sa mga streets will you walk a few steps to throw your garbage in a trash can or you just leave your plastic wrappers anywhere it’s a matter of choice but we should Re-think what path should we really benefit, it may be small as a candy wrapper but the consequence can huge than we expected.

Re-Use – also known as recycle if it’s hard for us not to purchase plastic materials and tin cans we should maximize its usage instead of throwing it after using it once. With this it minimize the volume of trash that is daily collected.

Revive – We all witness the success of Earth Hour every March, along with conservation campaign of World Wild Fund (WWF) and other nation’s campaign. Here in the Philippines ABS-CBN’s Bantay Kalikasan volunteered to help Department of National Resources to co-manage the Pasig River Rehabilitation program with the project Kapit Bisig sa Ilog Pasig (Join hands for Pasig River), Pasig River is considered in dead status where as its no longer inhabitant for marine creatures. The campaign touches all platforms that can generate funds for the rehabilitation from auction, fund drives for athletics and sports buff, internet users that can chip in through their paypal and credit card accounts, the usual banking system and mobile pledges where every peso you share counts by texting GIVE (space) ILOG and send to 2366 for Globe, Sun and Touch Mobile Subscribers, and 231 for Smart and Talk n Text Subscribers.

And lastly from the re-think, reuse and revive we should RE-Educate others of their responsibility to Mother Earth also re educating them awaken their conviction to help to save the environment and educating their children that will soon be taking care of the ecosystem when our time came to return to Mother Earth’s womb.

Again HAPPY EARTH DAY and the lesson of why we are having this celebration is making us to remember that we only have one life to live and one EARTH to live in so we should take care of it.

I'm a Geek and I should be on IMMAP!

I’m not a 100% business minded person but I like the idea of cultivating technology for bigger use aside from communication, but more on channels that addresses specific needs of its users. Like services and products that is just a click away for its clients.

I am a geek by heart and if I had chance to join It’s All Geek to Me! The 2nd Internet and Mobile Marketing Summit 2008 on August 13 to 15 at Hotel Intercontinental, Ayala Avenue, Makati City. I would love to ask David Jones of Friendster (personally on how they come up an idea on creating versions of Friendster for a specific audience such as Mandarin speaking country and others. How risky to do that and how does it affect their over market strategies.

Also I would like to learn on the protocols and ethics on the deeper world of e-life and web 2.0. What attitude should a beginner possess in engaging to different online and mobile marketing strategies and advertising landscapes? I know that the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP) has lots to say to its workshoppers on that day, and I wanted to know those things a lot.

From the mobile and online titans like Yahoo, Globe Telecom, Google, Smart Communications, Philstar and Yehey., I would like to know how aggressive they are in making their services and products compete in digital arena, and how they secure themselves in terms of competitiveness and standards that may secure a prominent spot on The Boomerang Awards 2008, and I'm sure Yehey and Smart Communications has a lot to share as finalist of last years event.

As for Dentsu-Indio, Mobile Marketing Association, Digital Media Planning and Buying (DGM) and Proximity, I would like to know their insights on the different online and mobile marketing strategies, from choosing their possible clients, branding their products and how they promote and sell it to the digital world. More I want to know the behavior of the mobile and online users, how they act, think and decide from what they think and what they possibly buy.

Lets Help the Victims of Typhoon Frank

To be honest, I am planning to write something on Philippine Wedding ngayong araw na ito para makahabol sa June wedding articles like yung ibang mga bloggers, but instead of doing happy stories ngayon I want to write something about what recently stuck me most, ito yung pagsalanta ng Typhoon Frank. Tulad ng mga bayan ng Zambales, Romblon, Pampanga at Rizal, kasama rin ang lugar namin na Malabon sa mga biktima sa hagupit ng bagyo. Isa ang baranggay namin sa napabalitang dumanas ng pagbaha sa Malabon, pero para sa akin magaan pa ito kumpara sa mga lugar na mas dumanas ng hirap, gutom at lamig sa apat na araw na pananatili ng bagyo.

Mula sa ilang mga kababayan nating kailangan lumikas sa kanilang mga tirahan dahil sa mga matataas na pagbaha, kagaya ng Cavite, Bulacan, Zambales at Pampanga na kung saan nahirapan na rin ang mga rescue team na iligtas sila dahil sa lakas ng pag ulan at paghangin, hanggang sa mga biktima nang lumubog na barko na Princess of the Stars na pag mamay-ari ng Sulpicio Lines. Hanggang ngayon nagtuturuan pa rin ang mga tao kung sino dapat managot sa trahedyang ito na naging daan sa pagkasawi ng ilang daang mga pasahero kasama na ang mga crew ng barko. Sa panahong ito, hindi ako makikiisa sa mga daliring magtuturo kung sino ang maykasalanan, walang makakapigil sa galit ng panahon. Pero ang sa akin lang ay maging bukas ang bawat panig na ayusin ang gulong ito, at ihanda ang mga tao sa mga ano pang darating na bagyo at kalamidad. Dumaan na tayo noon sa bagyong Milenyo, sa pagsabog ng Mt. Pinatubo at ang lindol na pumatay ng maraming tao sa Baguio noong 1990.

On Human Rights: The Battle Against Domestic Violence

Hindi man ganun kabigat ang issue ng domestic violence sa lipunan kagaya ng political killings, media censorship, at racial discrimination talamak naman ang ganitong uri ng human rights hindi lang sa Pilipinas kundi sa ibang bansa. Sa kasamaang palad ang kasong tulad nito ay patuloy pa rin nagtatago sa alibi na family problem lamang at iilan lamang ang may lakas ng loob na gumawa ng hakbang laban dito.

Mga kababaihan ang karaniwang biktima ng karahasang ito na dulot ng kanilang mga asawang lango sa alak o anumang bisyo, ngunit nananatiling piping saksi ang apat na sulok ng bahay sa pagmamalupit sa tinaguriang ilaw ng tahanan. Sa kabila nito walang ng pagmamalupit na ito ay ang nananatiling tagapagbalita lamang sa lipunan ay ang mga tsismosang mga kapitbahay pero ang mga dyaryo at telebisyon iilan lamang ang nagtangkang ibalita ito dahil iilan lamang ang may pakialam sa karaniwang "problema" ng isang pamilya at personal nilang pamumuhay.

Kainlan maituturing na tahanan ang isang bahay na naging saksi sa kalupitan at pagmamaltrato? Karaniwan napapanood natin ito sa mga palabas sa sinehan at telebisyon mga eksenang sinasaktan ng ama ang kanyang asawa, ang amang pinagsamantalahan ang kanyang anak, at ang anak na kumalaban at nanakit ng kanyang mga magulang at kapatid. Nararamdaman ba natin ito o manhid na rin tayo sa sakit na dulot ng bugbog at pagmamaltrato sa ating mga pagkatao, o baka pipi na tayong saksi dahil sa takot nating maeskandalo ang ating mga pamilya.

Ang bawat isa ay may karapatan sa pagpapahayag at karapatan pangsarili lalo na sa loob ng ating pamamahay o tahanan kung ating maituturing. Hindi natatapos ang laban against domestic violence, hanggang patuloy pa ring may sinasaktang asawa, kapatid, o kapamilya dahil kung ano man ang nangyayari ngayon ay nangyari noon at maaaring mangyari bukas. Hindi natatapos ang cycle ng tahasang paglabag sa karapatan pantao, kagaya sa domestic violence, at racial and gender discrimination dito sa bansa at saan man parte ng mundo, paulit ulit lang ito, hindi natatapos, hanggang walang taong naglalakas ng loob na pigilan at puksain ito. Bilang pakikibahagi sa International Human Rights Celebration, nakikibahagi ako sa layuning ito, at hari nawa magkaroon na ng tuldok ang walang hanggang paglabag sa karapatang pang tao. Respeto, kapayapaan, at ang patuloy na pagbabantantay sa mga taong patuloy pa rin lumalabag sa karapatan.

Uyayi para kay Nanay

Saan natatapos ang pagiging isang ina? Natatapos ba ito sa panahong nailuwal na ang isang sanggol sa kanyang sinapupunan? Paano ang mga inang ipinagkait na mabiyayaan ng anak, hindi na ba sila maituturing na maging isang ina? Gayun din ang mga babaeng piniling mamuhay sa isang bokasyong malayo sa pagbuo ng pamilya ngunit mas malawak pa rito ang serbisyong pinili nila, mga babaeng naninilbihan bilang yaya, mga babaeng naglilingkod sa bahay ampunan at simbahan. Hindi ba sila matuturing na isang ina dahil wala silang masasabing anak na mula sa kanilang sinapupunan? Paano rin ang mga amang piniling maging ina sa kanilang anak dahil ang kanilang asawa ay nagtrabaho sa ibang bansa o namayapa na?

Naging isang malawak na responsibilidad na ang pagiging isang ina, natural man o bokasyon. Kung noon ang isang pagiging ina ay nalilimitahan lamang sa isang babaeng nagdala ng anak sa kanyang sinapupunan sa loob ng siyam na buwan at iniluwal ito mula sa kanyang dugo at laman. Ngayon unti unti nang nagbabago ang anyo at pananaw sa tinaguriang responsibilidad at obligasyon ng ilaw ng tahanan. Mula sa inang nagluluwal, patungo sa isang babaeng piniling mag ampon ng isang batang aankinin niyang bilang anak sa kadahilanang hindi niya kaya magbuntis. Habang ang ilang mga yaya at mga kasapi ng bahay ampunan ay naging ina rin dahil ang responsibilidad ng pagkalinga at ang pagturing sa isang batang kapos sa pag aalaga ng totoong ina ay isang kapamilya. Kasama na rin ang mga yaya at mga naninilbihan sa mga bahay ampunang nagsilbing ikalawang ina na siyang pumuno sa kapos na kalinga ng mga mga inang nagtratrabaho at mga inang tinalikuran ang kanilang mga responsibilidad. Ito ang mga babaeng pinili ang bokasyon na maging isang inang ng mga batang hindi man lang nagmula sa kanila pero dahil sa tawag ng pagkalinga, pagkupkop, at pagmamahal ay tinanggap nila ito bilang nagmula rin sa kanila. Sa mga amang naging ilaw na rin ng tahanan na tinanggap ang responsibilidad nito na gabayan ang mga anak na iniwan sa kanya ng kanyang nagtratrabahong asawa o namayapa na. Ang mga inang nasa ibang panig ng bansa na nagtratrabaho upang mapunan ang pangangailangan ng pamilya lalo na ng mga anak. Bilang pakikibahagi sa Mother's Day Celebration, isang pagpupugay sa inyong mga inang tiniis at di inalintana ang siyam na buwang pagdala ng inyong mga anak sa sinapupunan hanggang sa pagluwal, sa mga inang kumupkop ng mga anghel na nangangailangan ng pagmamahal at pagkalinga, sa mga babaeng pinili ang bokasyon bilang maging ikawalang ina sa mga batang kapos sa pag aruga, sa mga amang tumayo na rin sa responsibilidad na maging ina sa mga anak, at sa mga inang lumayo sa mga pamilya at anak para magtrabaho sa malayong bansa isang pagkilala sa inyong mga kadakilaan. Iba iba man ang ibig sabihin ng salitang ina, pero isa lang ang ibig sabihin ng salitang ito kundi pagmamahal.

Malayang Pamamahayag, Malayang Pagpapahayag!

Masyadong malawak ang damdamin ng tula para ikulong ito sa sukat at tugma - Flowell Galindez, Adamson University, San Marcelino Literary Folio, 2004

Tulad ng tula, malawak ang ideya at damdamin ng isang blogger sa kanyang mga sinusulat. Mula sa kanyang personal na buhay hanggang sa pananaw niya sa samu’t saring pangyayaring nagaganap sa kanyang paligid. Ang bawat isa ay may responsibilidad maging parte ng mas malaking obligasyon ng citizen journalism, bilang blogger at miyembro ng lipunan.

Maaaring magkaiba ang tema ng bawat blog pero sa kabila ng pagkakaiba ay may iisang pagkakapare-pareho ang mga blogger at iyon ang pagbabahagi nila ng kanilang mga kwento at ideya. Maraming istorya at kwentong kailangang bigyang buhay ng may akda, at ibahagi ito sa iba at iyon ang isa sa mga responsibilidad ng isang blogger, ang maging tagapag-abot ng kwento at istorya sa kanilang mga magbabasa. Tanging isang tanong lang ang kailangan sagutin ng isang blogger at iyon ay ang katanungang nag-iwan ba siya ng marka sa kanilang mambabasa? Bilang sa pakikibahagi sa nomination para sa Top 10 Influential Blogger for 2008, nais ko ibahagi silang sampung naging inspirasyon at impluwensya sa aking pananaw bilang baguhang blogger. Silang may mas malalim at kahulugan sa kanilang mga pananaw sa buhay.

Iilan na lang ba ang may pagmamahal pa sa bayan pagkatapos umalis sa bansa, katulad ka ba ni Buraot bilang Anak ni Kulapo, patuloy niyang binabalikan ang bansang pinagmulan at patuloy niyang ipinaglalaban at pinupuna ang issue ng bayang kinalakihan nya noon.

Kainlan ka huling naupo, magpahinga hab ang pinapanood ang napakagandang tanawin, pinakikinggan ang huni ng mga ibon, at dinadama ang napakalamig na dampi ng hangin sa iyong balat? Mga simpleng bagay na di na natin naaalinta dahil masyado nating iniisip ang mga trabaho. Maaapreciate mo pa ba ito kung wala na? Sila ang ilan sa mga inspirasyon ko, mga bloggers na may kani kaniyang istoryang nais ipahatid sa mga mambabasa. Dahil maraming istorya man ang kailangang bigyang buhay at nabigyang buhay, ilan lang silang nagbigay ng puso dito para palayain at maging malaya ang mga sinulat nila at magsilbing inspirasyon sa lahat. Iba iba silang pananaw, pagkatao at pinagkukunan ng ideya, pero sila ang Top 10 Influential Bloggers ko para sa The Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs in 2008 hindi man sila sikat, at maraming bumibisita sa kanila. Ang proud like lang ako may determinasyon sila sa sinusulat nila at may lalim ang mga pagkatao nila bilang miyembro ng blogging society at bilang citizen journalist.
