Earth Hour 2011: The quest to save Mother Earth begins with US

Last March 27, in SM Mall of Asia Ground was my third Earth Hour event with WWF-Philippines. With all government sectors, students and their organizations, supporters and advocates joined this annual switch off that originated in Australia in 2004 and now all over the world they are now doing this activity yearly to switch off their lights from 8:30PM – 9:30PM to symbolically show the world the importance of conserving all the resources for the future generation at the same time taking part of caring for the environment.

Everyone gave their pledges last night from turning off their appliances and unplugging it if it was not use, using glass instead of letting the water run in the faucet while brushing, up to the usage of the internet to advocate and spread awareness on the concern of waste management, climate change and environmental revolution. According to Jose Ma. Lorenzo “Lory” Tan CEO of WWF-Philippines in his brief message during the event he says that everyone has the responsibility of taking Earth Hour beyond in their community and homes, letting ourselves to begin that change in everyday of our lives.

As 2011 Earth Hour with the campaign 60+ or going beyond Earth Hour, it encourages to go beyond the annual switch off and take the responsibility of being one of the eco warriors to promote recycling, minimize usage of papers, proper waste management, and so many more.

Lastly, for those who wanted to extend their support to WWF-Philippines, by texting EHOUR to 5333 (P20 for GLOBE & P15 for SMART) to receive an MMS picture. Or texting EHOUR ON to 5333 to subscribe to the SMS info service and receive selected green tips from WWF. (P2.50 per text). Or every time you do transaction on BDO ATM don’t forget to donate P5 to WWF-Philippines and same for those who enjoyed traveling don’t forget to click on donate to WWF-Philippines where the amount varies in the miles you will travel.
