Last 2010, Recipes by Metro Café opened its sixth branch at the 3rd floor of The Block in SM City North EDSA (Quezon City). To be honest, last June 18 was my first time to visit the restaurant to try their Filipino enhanced Asian cuisine in their modern and sophisticated setting. Here are some of the dishes we tried at recipes.
Chicharong Bulaklak (Deep fried pork intestine) P168 – This is one of the appetizers served in Recipes. The pork intestine is deeply fried to bring out the crunchiness with a salty taste that compliments with spicy vinegar sauce.

Adarna Food & Culture: Good food and rich culture combined
It is very rare for me to dine in Filipino restaurant especially this kind of dining place are either hard to find the area I usually hang out or it is very expensive. Luckily with the Sooo Pinoy campaign of Unilever Food Solutions, in their advocacy on culinary tourism that promotes different Filipino dishes for tourist and locals, I had the chance to try the Adarna Food & Culture in Kalayaan Avenue in Quezon City.

From the maker of John Bamboo, Red Crab, Heaven ‘N Eggs, Blu Fish, and Claw Daddy brings another concept restaurant and this time it ventures to all meat lovers who goes to Eastwood Mall in Libis to dine – The Flying Pig Super Swine Diner & Café . Flying Pig is a concept restaurant that offers a variety of dishes made of pork; from appetizers, soups, salads, and main dishes. Chef Peter Ayson, who is also the executive chef of John Bamboo in Nuvali said that they wanted to maximize all parts of the pork and create dishes from it. Honestly, I was so surprised seeing a huge number of pork made dishes in one menu which only Flying Pig has and I was fortunate to try some of their bestsellers.

After its huge success in 1993 as a restaurant near Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City, where its major patrons were celebrities and athletes, Joseph & Jaemark’s Family Grill moved to #5 Sgt. Esguerra Avenue, South Triangle with the same delicious dishes and bigger space. Before its transfer in Quezon City, Joseph & Jaemark’s transferred in other locations after Pasay; Katipunan Avenue, Makati, C-5 Taguig, and Magallanes. It is currently managed by Reggie Mars Food, Inc (Reggie Arceo and Mars Reyes).
Joseph & Jaemark’s newest location can accommodate more than 200 persons; the area is divided in air-conditioned room and alfresco. They still serve their popular dishes and add more to satisfy the demands of their diners. Their Quezon City restaurant is just a few months older and I had the chance to try their bestsellers:
Catfish Salad (P200) - Deep fried Catfish meat over onion and manggo which is perfect for appetizer. I enjoyed the crunchiness of the catfish with the tingling sour-taste of mango.
Stuffed Petchay (P160/6pcs) - Rolled Petchay with tinapa bits inside that compliments with the coco milk and frechness of the petchay. It gives very distinctive after taste.
Grilled Tuna Belly (S-P270, M-P360 and L-P450) - Well marinated Tuna Belly that is so tender perfect with soy sauce with calamansi and chili.
Coco Prawn (P450) - Enjoying Ginataang Hipon in a very unique way with coconut meat and served in coconut shell. It has the fine mixture of salty and sweet, from the cooked coconut milk and the coconut meat.
Bicol Express (P145) - At first, it looks like Pinakbet, an Ilocano dishes where they mixed vegetables with shrimp paste (bagoong alamang) or "bagoong balayan", but it is a more forward version of Bicol Express that contains more vegetables in coconut milk and chili.
BBQ Pork Spareribs (P220) - Its like eating a premium ham but more sauce. I love the sweet-salty taste of the spareribs and the tenderness of the meat that can easily cut with the use of fork.
Crispy Buntot ng Tuna (M-P350, L-P415) - Joseph & Jaemark’s bestseller. It's a healthy alternative to crispy pata which we all know that Tuna is rich with Omega-3 that is good for the heart. It has the crispiness of crispy pata and tenderness of fish in one. Perfect with butter soy sauce to bring out the sweetness of the fish or vinegar-soy sauce to have the crispy pata salty-sour feeling.
Joseph & Jaemark’s is open for reservations and party events just call 410-TUNA(8862). The good thing with their restaurant is that they offer alternatives to those who wanted to have a break from red meat and enjoy the freshness of the seafood cooked in a very innovative way just like the crispy buntot ng tuna which is one of my favorite in Joseph & Jaemark’s.
Looking forward to comeback with family or friends to enjoy good food that is so very affordable.

When we talk about Italian dishes it always comes to mind that it is expensive but deep inside most of us craves and loves eating pizza and pasta as we enjoy the warm ambiance that an Italian restaurant offer. Joey Pepperoni Pizzeria a restaurant located in the RFM Corporate Center in Mandaluyong offers an Italian-American cuisine that everyone will enjoy because aside from the great food they offer is that it is very affordable. The RFM Corporate Center branch is the pioneer restaurant of Joey Pepperoni, it was opened in December 2005, and not it has more that 24 branches nationwide.
Luckily enough, I had the opportunity to try their best sellers including their gelato and pizza pizza promo:
Joey Pepperoni offers pizzas in a very affordable price fresh out of the oven with thin crust. Aside from the usual 8 and 12 inches pizza, they also offer Pizza Pizza promo where they offer 2 pizzas for the price of 1 - P199. There are two flavors to choose Pepperoni and Mushroom and Beef and Onion Pizza, still have the rich ingredients and the thin crust we all love.
I enjoyed the Lasagne alla Bolognese the creaminess of the sauce and layers of lasagna partnered with garlic bread. Both pasta and the rest of their pasta products is good for sharing.
For a group of three or four, Lotto Appetito is the best appetizer to order in Joey Pepperoni. It is plate of chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and breaded beef patty with pomodoro and pesto dip. Mozzarella sticks caught my cravings because of the crunchiness outside and the burst of mozzarella cheese inside, it is best when it is hot.
The best way to end a hearty dinner or lunch is with a delicious dessert, Joey Pepperoni offers wide of range of desserts that its costumers will truly enjoy and in the Pioneer branch in Mandaluyong they offer gelato. I enjoyed the Frozen Cappuccino Mud Pie I like the sweet-better taste of it that gives me the comfort of every spoonful of it.
Chef Giorgio A. Bucciarelli ensures that Joey Pepperoni offers authentic Italian cooking where it is very affordable and light on the budget. He makes sure that all the dishes served in their restaurant satisfy the cravings of its costumer for Italian cuisine. Joey Pepperoni, aside from pasta and pizza also offer panini and dishes with rice.

I am an avid diner of the Bubble Tea in SM North EDSA and I am glad that my favorite Japanese fusion food and premium milk tea has it branch located in Tomas Morato in Quezon City, just few minutes away from where I am working. Last October 26, I am one of the bloggers who had a chance to tried almost all of their dishes and their milk teas, and what can I say it is totally heaven and fun of course I am with my friends too. The Tomas Morato branch opened last April 2010, where aside from SM North EDSA, Bubble Tea has a branch in SM Megamall and soon will be opening another branch in November at the Wilson Street in Greenhills, San Juan.
Here are the Japanese fusion dishes that are served in the Bubble Tea, and most of the food served are good for sharing around 2-3 persons.
Miso Soup is always on my top list every time I am dining in a Japanese restaurant. It dictates if I will be enjoying the rest of the dishes or not, but with Bubble Tea, having a Miso Soup that is comforting and affordable as low as P40 pesos, all I can say is that there will be great dishes that will follow and in very affordable prices.
For Bubble Tea CEO Reagan Tan, it is very important that they serve fresh vegetables and meat that still has the good and delectable flavor that their visitors love. Like in their Caesar Salad they make sure that their Romaine lettuce, mango, tomato, and grapes is all fresh before tossing it to pan fried chicken and sesame dressing to preserve the crisp and juiciness of all the ingredients.
Among the stick treats that Bubble Tea served during the Tuesday dinner, the Yakitori is the one I enjoyed the most. For others the chicken meat being grilled is common, but what made BBT's Yakitori tasty is that the chicken meat was perfectly marinated with Teriyaki sauce and in between the chicken skewers are shiitake mushrooms and leeks that adds to the juiciness in every bite.
When I tried the Bubble Salad Sushi, it really wows my taste buds imagine the mixed ingredients that we all love in all maki-sushi, its all here and perfectly wrapped with layers of nori. You can enjoy the chewiness and all the flavor explodes inside your mouth. I also love the Vancouver for shrimp lovers like me, enjoy the breaded prawn wrapped with rice and spicy tuna and topped with teriyaki sauce I am sure you will be getting more of it.
Noodles is one of the primary dishes in all Japanese restaurant, in Bubble Tea there are wide range of noodle dishes, from Ramen to Pasta which everyone will enjoy. With Ebi Fry Yakisoba, one of my favorite and made special by BBT is that two (2) big tiger prawns compliments with stir friend noodles that has over flowing of vegetables and meets that is worth sharing to 2-3 person. For those who wanted the "kick" or something spicy, Spicy Mix Seafood & Tomato Spaghetti is the pasta to order. It a spaghetti with spicy tomato sauce topped with mix of tuna, salmon, squid, prawn, clam and mussel.
Rice will always be part of Asian dishes especially for the Filipinos, Bubble Tea offers a wide list of rice dishes that we Pinoys would love to eat, among the dishes Chicken Teriyaki Doria is my personal choice. It is a grilled boneless chicken topped on baked rice with melted cheese where both sweetness and salty flavor burst in your mouth in every spoonful of it.
Of course, Bubble Tea cannot be Bubble Tea without its famous premium milk tea and milkshake products that everyone love. There four choices of their beverages; Milk Tea that has 10 choices that you can choose from Hot (P80/order) and Cold (Medium - P115/order, Large - P125/order), Milk Shakes that has 9 flavors Medium - P135/order and Large P145/order, Fusion of Green or Black Tea that is available in Hot (P70/order) and Cold (Medium - P85/order, Large - P95/order) and Tea Slush that is P125/order for Medium and P135/order for Large. All cold beverages comes with bubbles, there add-on on your drinks with specific price such as extra bubbles, egg pudding, vanilla cream or sugar free choice. Bubble Tea also offers brewed coffee, cappuccino, hot mocha, hot chocolate and hot herb tea.
According to Mr. Tan, they make sure that every month they will be offering new dishes that their avid costumers will enjoy and also can attract new diners. That is why most of the dishes in Bubble Tea are mixture of new and old Japanese dishes with a touch of Filipino to cater the need of their growing market.
A hearty dinner or lunch must end with a delicious and sweet desserts where Bubble Tea also offers cakes and desserts that everyone would love to have a slice. I recommend the Green Tea cake who loves the fusion of sweetness and green tea after taste in every bite.
In line with Bubble Tea's celebration on its new branch that will open this November in Wilson street in Greenhills San Juan, they also launches the Pichur! Pichur! contest where they will be giving away a brand new Nikon S230 touch screen LCD camera and P1,500 Bubble Tea Gift Cheque. All they need is to take a picture of themselves inside the Bubble Tea store and be creative. Send those photos with your name, address, age, sex, occupation-company/school level-school name:, mobile number, telephone number, email address at bbtnikon.facebook@gmail.com, deadline is until November 20, 11:59pm.
