ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs launches Bayan Mo iPatrol Mo

ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs makes this call to all Filipinos as the nation moves forward to a new government with the election of a new set of leaders.

As another chapter in Philippine history is set to unfold, ABS-CBN is empowering citizens to patrol for the country’s future via “Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo” that calls on each and every Filipino to actively participate in solving the nation’s problems by becoming agents of change in their communities.

“Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo is about taking responsibility of the future. The only way we can do that is by fixing the problems we have today. We want Filipinos to not just recognize that there is something wrong but to also do something about it,” said ABS-CBN Head of Newsgathering Chi Almario-Gonzalez.

ABS-CBN officially launched BMPM last Tuesday (June 15) with day-long activities in Manila, Bacolod and Cagayan De Oro to encourage people to register as BMPM volunteers and become “Bayan Patrollers.”

In line with the opening of classes, “Umagang Kay Ganda,” “TV Patrol World,” and “Bandila” also featured young Bayan Patrollers who have begun change in their communities by reporting and acting on the problems in their schools.

ABS-CBN stars such as Toni Gonzaga, Jericho Rosales, and Piolo Pascual also shared how they will contribute to change in plugs aired all over ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN Head of News and Current Affairs Maria Ressa said the launch of “Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo” marks an important milestone in ABS-CBN’s commitment to citizen empowerment.

“There is no better time to do something for the country but today. “Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo” gives people a fresh start in taking responsibility of the nation and our future. If there will be Bayan Patrollers in schools, in the government, in corporations, and in the streets, who all want and are working for change, then there is nothing impossible for the Philippines as a country,” said.

In the recent May 2010 polls, ABS-CBN empowered citizens to ensure a clean and honest election. On election day, citizen journalists all over the country sent around 5,000 reports on election irregularities, some of which were used for news reports in ABS-CBN’s “Halalan 2010” coverage, the most extensive, most hi-tech, and also the most watched election coverage based on the survey conducted by TNS.

With on-the-edge news reports presented via augmented reality technology, ABS-CBN’s flagship news program "TV Patrol World" topped the national ratings last May 10 with a rating of 31.5% versus GMA's "24 Oras" (25%), a feat that would start a trend that lasts up to this day.

Meanwhile, Ressa added that Bayan Patrollers are not only urged to initiate change but to also turn in stories of triumph, unity, and the Filipino spirit, which would bring inspiration and hope to other Filipinos.
