Athletic shoe, sporting apparel, casual footwear, trainers, sandshoes, running shoes, runners, sneakers, gym shoes, tennis shoes, tennies, sport shoes, sneaks, takkies ... doesn't matter what you call them, they just aren't dress shoes -- or are they?

Yea..I would say that running shoes can be used for running and walking and in informal or dress-down settings and events. I mean, imagine going to a job interview in your running shoes. Would they be considered dress shoes in the eyes of an employer? Now there's some food for thought.
