Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood to film J. Edgar

Last February 23 in Burbank, California, Warner Bros Pictures officially announce the filming of J. Edgar headed by its director Clint Eastwood and lead star Leonardo DiCaprio. The film explores the public and private of one of the most powerful and controversial enigmatic figures of the 20th century to be immortalize by Oscar winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

J. Edgar or John Edgar Hoover was law enforcer in America for almost fifty years where he became the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He was feared and admired, reviled and revered by everyone who fought gangsters in the height of bank robberies during his stay in position. Despite of him being one of the most powerful and influential icons in his time lays a secret that will destroy his image, career and life.

The action drama film that is set to be released on 2012 includes Naomi Watts, Judi Dench, Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas, Damon Herriman, and Ken Howard. J. Edgar was produced by Malpaso and Imagine Entertainment. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Movie Review: Hereafter

Hereafter is a brilliant movie that shows different stories and smoothly connects them at the end. That is the way I am describing Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter that stars Matt Damon as a psychic trying to end his past life and wanting to have a normal one. But in the end he cannot stop the fate and pursue the gift/curse and live with it.

The drama-suspense movie gives the viewers a bite of different stories, which in my opinion may bore others, but one thing I know each character has a very interesting story to tell. From the struggle of George Lonegan (Damon) to turn his back from the gift to communicated to the departed which for him is curse, to Marie Lelay (Cécile de France) who experienced life after death and seeking for answers and to Marcus (Frankie McLaren) who wanted closure and connection to his departed twin brother Jason (George McLaren). Hereafter is a conversational movie, which most of us is expecting it to be a horror type like the 6th Sense and Ghost, but honestly its not it is more a drama focusing on the problems and dilemmas of each characters. It is a beautiful movie; it gives us a bigger perspective on the story, deleting the concept of villain and hero in the movie as separate entity but each characters shows a hero and villain side inside them.

Technically, I love the way the movie was shot especially the camera angles. The long or wide shots which are common in Thailand and London scenes gives the viewers see the action from tsunami and the struggle of George. Tight shots and the one taken from the back of the characters gives as the view of a second person following the journey of each character and make us understand their problems. The texture of the movie, the gloomy and sad feel summarizes the core idea of Hereafter, a sad, long and heartbreaking movie.

Hereafter is a feel good movie but unlike others it will not make us laugh or fall in love. It is a feel good movie for those who wanted to be independent, needs strength and inspiration to face problems and accept what was lost and moving on.

Hereafter will be showing in all cinemas nationwide beginning January 19. It is distributed by Warner Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Clint Eastwood directs Warner Bros’ Hereafter

After the success of Invictus which was done in South Africa, film actor, director, producer, and composer Clint Eastwood is back behind the camera to direct Hereafter. The film stars Matt Damon and produced by Steven Spielberg. The drama fantasy movie is distributed by Warner Bros Pictures.

Hereafter follows the life of George Lonegan (Damon), a reluctant psychic and now working as factory worker. He sees the gift of communicating with the dead as curse but he was forced to use that talent in order to help Marie Lelay (Cécile de France), a French television journalist who survived a tsunami in Thailand. And Marcus (Frankie McLaren), a 11 year old kid from London whose twin brother died in accident and was forced to leave his heroin-addicted mother, Jackie (Lyndsey Marshal) for foster home.

According to Eastwood, the film written by by two-time Oscar nominee Peter Morgan is different from his other film. It centers on the interwoven stories of three people touched by mortality in different ways which connects to the lives of the three characters; George Lonegan, Marie Lelay and Marcus. “It is a good character study. Everybody is affected by something that eventually pushes them towards each other. I just thought it was very cleverly constructed. It had some interesting message about loss, finding oneself, love. I am not too big on psychics, but it seemed a different way to do that subject matter. That’s what attracted me to it.” Clint added.

Hereafter shows how the life of the three characters who were from different part of the world will crossed path and create a bigger story.l Cécile de France reveals that working with Eastwood brings out her potential as an actress. “I felt he totally trusts you, so you feel ready to give him all your energy and potential,” the de France says.

“I like to embrace the stories and let them unfold naturally by getting to know the people. In this film, each of the three main characters has something the other one needs, not necessarily answers, but a starting point to get on with their lives. They’ve all just got to do the best they can while they’re here.” Eastwood added.

The film debut in US and Canada last October 22, 2010, where it has a pre-released screening last August and September for the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival and 48th New York Film Festival. Hereafter opens in all cinemas nationwide this December except for the Philippines which will be available on the first quarter of 2011. The film is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
