From Verona to the modern gardens of accidentally to be the new Capulet and Montague, the lawn gnomes continue the rivalry of their owners. Divided by their color (blue and red), they must outwit and battle one another in order to survive. But like the original story of Shakespeare in the midst of “war” comes the flourish of love between Gnomeo (McAvoy) and Juliet (Blunt). With different characters and scenes it will create a new twist of the famous Shakespearean novel.
We all know what will happen with the story but of course being a film for kids it changes the tragedy part to lighter scenes. So there’s no need to discuss on the storyline, but one of the things I like in the movie was that how Disney translated the Shakespearean story to animation with a different sets of characters especially the key characters such as the nurse which was translated in the movie as a loud mouth garden frog. Nanette (Ashley Jensen), the frog nurse that attends to Juliet is a show stopper because of her character and humor that really unforgettable in the story. And of course I would not end this blog post on not telling that the songs used in the movie was fantastic especially Elton John’s Hello Hello.
The animated film also features the voices of Michael Caine, Jason Statham, Maggie Smith and Matt Lucas. Gnomeo & Juliet is now showing in all cinemas nationwide and available in 3D and regular format. It was distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International.
