Shakespeare in Hollywood brings out the character of Oberon (Eckstein) and Puck (Concepcion) from the mystical forest in Athens to the glamorous studio of the Warner Brothers. Coming from the original story of Shakespeare, Oberon and Puck will encounter the process of immortalizing their character and how it will be done. They will meet the entire artists who will perform their characters and even had the chance to be part of the productions. But like the way it was in the entertainment scenes there’s challenges and even changes in the storyline and of course love will always be involve in the story along with its twist and turn.
Director Jamie del Mundo will also play one of the Warner Bothers in the play. He also directed plays like Our Country’s Good, After Aida and taking Sides. During the rehearsal it was revealed that del Mundo was one of directors who had his rehearsals in morning schedules unlike directors, which it was very challenging for other actors who was used to wake up late and have their rehearsals in later afternoon and evening.
Shakespeare in Hollywood is the third play that Repertory Philippines this year following The Joy Luck Club and The 39 Steps. According to Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, the Associate Artistic Director of Rep Phils, all their plays underwent deliberation with all the members of the council that dictates on the tone of the theater season of Rep Phils. The child musical play Seussical and Peter Pan are the next play that everyone should expect.
Ken Ludwig's Shakespeare in Hollywood will run on April 1- 17, 2011 with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and matinee shows on Saturdays and Sundays at 3:30 p.m. All performances are at Onstage, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.
