Cobb has the ability to extract or steal ideas and secrets from the person who is in their unconscious state particularly while sleeping. Hoping for his redemption as a treacherous new world of corporate espionage, he accepts his last job where he was to plant an idea to a person rather than stealing from it. Unknown to his he plants a crime in the mind of the person which brings more twist on his so called redemption where he became an accomplished on the possible crime scene.
“Cobb has achieved a level of expertise that has made him very well known in the underground black market of individuals who are able to infiltrate people’s minds and extract information,” DiCaprio explained his role in Inception. “We learn that Cobb is the best extractor in the game. He is hired by corporations to steal secrets they would otherwise never have access to. It’s all based on the persistence of an idea, the notion that any concept will stay fixed in the subconscious. It’s impossible to unlearn something, and that forms the basis for what an extractor is able to do in terms of retrieving information” box office director behind Dark Knight Christopher Nolan added.
DiCaprio explains that the approach he and Nolan did to the character of the dream extractor is by attaching reality to the surreal world of unconsciousness and he also praises Nolan as an extreme talented filmmaker. “Chris definitely encouraged that; he wanted every actor, no matter how big or small the part, to have a real sense of our characters and to bring something to the table to make them our own” DiCaprio ended.
Inception will be shown in all IMAX theaters and regular format cinemas nationwide beginning July 15, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
